GLAMOUR IS BACK
 
For Winter 2008, Stills showcases an abundance of extremes, combining close-fitting, slim-cut skirts and trousers with long, loose-fitting tops. Tight belts and high-waisted trousers allow a feminine accentuation of the waist; accompanied with a blazer, this clearly shows the revival of the visually striking men’s suit. The astute combination of pre-war elements, such as pencil skirts and satin blouses, with modern pieces shows the collection as one with interesting, subtle variety: originality that shows the collection has both feet firmly in this millennium.
 
COLOURS
 
Following the influx of grey during recent seasons, colour makes a triumphant return in the new winter collection. Stills welcomes back bold reds, combining these with navy and taupe. Strong greens and a variety of purples allow an attractive, exotic colour scheme. Black is graphically combined with a striking blue. All shades of brown, with the emphasis on camel, complete the range of colours in the collection with a hint of retro.
 
FABRICS
 
Contrast is central to the choice of fabrics. Silk, transparent or with a satin sheen, is combined with heavy jersey fabrics or couture-reminiscent tweeds. Thick stretch fabrics are worn with beautifully soft leather or jersey with a satin sheen. Wool pieces become striking with metallic coatings and pebble effects. Classic men’s suit fabrics, such as flannel or cool wool, feature heavily throughout the collection, yet the long-jackets and high-waisted trousers give a feminine touch. With the inclusion of mohair, cashmere and angora, knitwear is even more luxurious than before. Such a mixture of fabrics makes the Fall 08 collection extremely wearable and ultra-feminine. Prints are graphic – think art deco – and often enlarged in contrasting colour combinations, or sophisticated, such as the animal prints on crushed silk.
 
SILHOUETTES
 
At first glance, the collection appears neat and classic: pencil skirts and trouser suits. Yet due to the intricate detail, the sophisticated fabrics and strong colours, a new, modern look is created. Once again, contrast is central: loose-fitting tops are worn with slimline trousers and waist-cinching belts, chunky cable jumpers are combined with soft silk satin, and heavy textiles with a metallic sheen are placed over satin blouses.
 
ACCESSORIES
 
Such a look requires sophisticated accessories. The collection offers a variety of belts: narrow and patent, wide for the waist, or fake fur. Gloves are short in suede or long in soft leather, with variations in wool, with dye effect, large beads, or metallic print.
